Excellent!

I am not usually one to write a review, but in this case it was necessary... I have had beautiful blonde hair my whole life and the only thing I have done to it was using a boxed highlighting kit at Wal-Mart that lasted maybe a week, so I thought I would be brave enough to professionally get low lights and highlights at the new salon in town called NU U because a friend recommended the salon and the owner Melissa or “Missy”. I arrived and was a little nervous but finally selected my two colors (without much help) for my low lights and my highlights. I selected a light brown color for the low light, but when I told her that I wanted the highlights to be bleached (because my hair was already lighter than her lightest shade of blonde) she started telling me how bad it is to bleach your hair, then proceeded to tell me that the reason her hair was only a couple inches short was because she bleached her hair twice and it all started breaking off and falling out of her head, WHILE I WAS SITTING IN THE CHAIR BY MYSELF GETTING READY TO GET BLEACHED HIGHLIGHTS. I was very skeptical after being in the salon for only minutes, at that moment I should have just trusted my gut and left. So then the foils were placed and I waited 30 minutes, only to find out that the “brown” or “low lights” were not showing up much, which is what she had told me, so I kept them on for another 10 minutes. After my hair was washed and I looked in front of the mirror my hair was soaking wet (which makes colors show more visibly) and I saw the same hair I have had my whole life. I was very quiet while she was blow drying my hair, trying to look for a difference but there was none. Being that my hair is very light blonde, even the lightest shades of brown would show up very prominently. When I asked her about it she just told me that I would see a difference when I stepped outside and that it was my fault for picking too light of a color so I just quietly paid and left, not knowing what to do. By the way it was $30 dollars. When I got home my mom was shocked as to see nothing new to my hair. After asking a few people about it INCLUDING the person who referred me, they all told me that I had paid for a service and was not completely satisfied and that the owner will be more than happy to “take care of me”. (Working in the public I know the importance of building the cliental relationships and pandering to people’s needs to insure a good relationship to the customers) So then next day I called to make an appointment and explained why. A few minutes later I get a voicemail from Melissa saying that there has be some form of miscommunication and that she was not going to “fix” my hair for free because it was my fault for picking too light of a color and that she would do my hair again during my new scheduled appointment, but for the full price again of $30. So I called back to cancel my appointment and the secretary hurried and handed the phone over the Melissa and I had to state again that I was ONLY calling to cancel my appointment. She continued to tell me that it was my mistake for choosing too light of a color, and I told her that the color did not even turn out remotely similar to the color of brown I had selected. After a while of silence she said to just come into the appointment and she would see what she would do, but because of her unprofessionalism and the hassle, I told her to continue to cancel my appointment and she will not have my business anymore. Being that word-of-mouth is Nu U’s only form of advertisement, she should have made an extreme effort to keep me as a customer, considering how quickly word spreads in a small town. Now I am almost too scared to ever do my hair again after this experience.
